Views of SPIE.tv videos on YouTube -- featuring next-generation-and-beyond technologies for biomedical optics, laser manufacturing, space travel, computing, sustainable energy, security, and other optics and photonics applications -- topped the 100,000 mark this week.

Views of videos of optics and photonics interviews, lab tours, conference presentations, educational demonstrations, and other features on the SPIE.tv channel on YouTube have topped the 100,000 mark.
Videos on the channel are produced by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for and also available on the SPIE Newsroom website. The SPIE Newsroom also includes researcher-authored open access articles and the latest research and industry news organized by technical topics.
In addition to providing updates for the scientific community, SPIE.tv strives to communicate the capabilities and importance of optics and photonics technology to non-scientists, and to share stories of the field's leading visionaries and pioneers.
More than 200 videos have been posted on the SPIE.tv YouTube channel over the last four years. The channel has nearly 300 subscribers.
With close to 10,000 views, the most-watched video is "Light in Action" which demonstrates several optics experiments and is targeted for elementary-aged students.
Among the newest posts is a video featuring a great horned owl from the San Diego Zoo in a presentation on bio-mimicry and bio-inspiration for engineering during last week's SPIE Smart Structures and Non-Destructive Evaluationconference in San Diego, California.
