Youtube adds features to its Live service - Inquirer
Apr 11th 2012, 11:02

SOCIAL VIDEO WEB SITE Youtube has added features to its Live software to celebrate one year of the service.

These include a new Wirecast service developed so users can produce and stream professional looking live events directly to Youtube from their desktops.

Wirecast allows users to capture and switch between multiple video and audio sources, roll in media files and images, and add live effects and overlays. Youtube said in its Partners and Creators blog that users enabled for live streaming will see a link to download Wirecast in their Youtube account.

Youtube Live's new software also permits users to monetise live events with advertising or paid options.

The Youtube Live blog post explained, "A live event can be claimed in the new video manager like any other video and monetised with in-stream ads or paid options where you can set price by country."

A guided flow to set up and preview live events before you go live will be featured, along with real time access to data like playbacks and concurrent viewers of your live streams by geography and format.

However, not everyone can take advantage of Youtube's Live service and these new features. A user commented on the Youtube blog post, "When will ALL partners living in the USA get access to YouTube Live? I heard by the end of 2011, but unfortunately that goal has already failed."

Youtube hasn't said when the service will be rolled out to everyone, but it thanked users who are still waiting for access for their patience.

"We've developed these features with the expectation many more of you will eventually use YouTube Live, and like we said last year, this process takes time to roll out broadly," Youtube said. µ
