Get ready to view Asian art as you've never seen it before.

The Google Art Project lets web surfers see artworks up close, down to the most minute brushstroke and dust speck. But when it launched last year, its focus was on Western art, featuring works from major museums in nine countries, primarily in North America and Europe.

It recently broadened its reach to showcase thousands of new works from across the globe, including collections from the Ayala Museum in the Philippines, Indonesia's Museum Nasional (National Museum), Singapore's National Heritage Board and other art museums in Asia.

"The Art Project is no longer just about the Indian student wanting to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It is now also about the American student wanting to visit the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi," Google's Amit Sood said in a blog post.

Google's expanded, 30,000-image-strong collection stretches not only geographically, but also in terms of type of work featured, with photography, sculpture, installation and street art represented. Whatever you're looking for, you can browse images in extreme detail — each is roughly 7 billion pixels, with a few available as gigapixel images – and save or share your favorites online.
