Lenovo IdeaPad S2109 gets a video unveiling

Last week, Lenovo took to YouTube to unveil its first ICS-based tablet. The new tablet sports a 9.7-inch, IPS screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and an iPad 2-matching resolution of 1,024x768 pixels. This obviously falls short of the new iPad's 2,048x1,536-pixel resolution and even most Android tablets, which usually top out at 1,280x800 pixels.

The S2109 includes Micro-USB, a microSD card slot, and a single 1.3-megapixel front camera. However, say what you will about its unibody design, 8.9mm thickness, or its purported 10-hour battery life; the most intriguing detail has to be its inclusion of quad speakers on the back.

All tablets include speakers -- usually one or two -- but by featuring four, Lenovo is kind of raising my expectations of what I should expect from the tablet's audio capabilities. more

Lenovo's Android 4.0 tablet wants to be your laptop, too

The key word around Lenovo these days is "convergence."

In the case of the Lenovo IdeaTab S2, we're seeing an Android 4.0 tablet converging with the keyboard and touch pad of a conventional notebook computer. Like Asus' Eee Pad Transformer Prime, the IdeaTab S2 comes as two separate, interlocking pieces: a tablet and a keyboard dock. It's a great combo for anyone who feels that their tablet needs to do more than just Angry Birds and Web browsing and actually serve as a tool for working and communicating.

The keyboard accessory also provides a number of useful more

ThinkPad and IdeaPad K1 Android tablets, hands-on

You can now officially add Lenovo to the list of computer manufacturers pushing out Android tablets this year. In fact, put the company down for two.

Meet the Tango & Cash of tablets. The ThinkPad Tablet is the business-minded one of the pair, with its optional digital pen and suite of DocsToGo software. The IdeaPad K1 is the party animal, with certification for Netflix streaming and a SocialTouch app that puts all your social networks within easy reach.

Both tablets are set for major release in August, though the IdeaPad K1 can be ordered directly from Lenovo and select partners starting today. The base price on the ThinkPad Tablet is $499 (16GB), and the IdeaPad K1 starts at $449 (16GB).

For the ThinkPad, that $499 gets you a Wi-Fi-only connection to the Web. Other options, such as 3G data modules, preinstalled software, and keyboard portfolio cases, can all be added to your bill. An extra $30 will get you the N-trig digital pen, which can be neatly tucked away inside the tablet frame. Because Lenovo is ultimately targeting the enterprise market with the ThinkPad Tablet, it can be tailored in hundreds of different ways to suit the need. So whether you need VPN-secured desktop virtualization software, or a custom app store filled with company-approved software, Lenovo has your back.

New Lenovo unit to focus on tablets, smart TV

Lenovo has created a division to help it capitalize on the growing mobile and digital home sectors.

The company's new Mobile Internet and Digital Home Business Group will be in charge of developing smartphones and tablets. In addition, the group will focus some of its product development efforts on cloud computing, smart TV technology, and the digital home. Lenovo also said that the new division "will be responsible for developing services and applications that will fuel these next generation 'convergence' devices."

Although the business unit is new, Lenovo has already been competing in some of the areas the group more

Report: iPad to rule tablet market through 2012

Apple's reign as king of the tablet market should stay strong for at least the next couple of years, says a new report from iSuppli.

Though a variety of tech players have been cooking up their own tablet devices, no true competitor is likely to surface until next year, giving Apple a dominant share of the market through 2012 if not further, according to iSuppli.

This year, the iPad is expected to account for 74.1 percent of all global tablet shipments, with the remaining percentage left mostly to an assortment of older PC-style tablets. Next year, it will
