(RTTNews.com) - According to traffic tracker comScore, Google (GOOG) maintained its top position in March in the U.S. explicit core search market. The search giant garnered 66.4 percent share of all search queries conducted in the month, in line with its February share. The number of core searches has increased in the month with all search engines recording growth.
The monthly comScore qSearch analysis of the U.S. search marketplace released on Wednesday showed Google sites topping the table, followed by Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) sites with 15.3 percent share and Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) sites with 13.7 percent. Ask Network accounted for 3 percent of core searches, followed by AOL, Inc. (AOL) with 1.6 percent.
All the sites maintained their market share in comparison to February, except for Yahoo!, which lost 0.1 percentage point share and AOL, which gained 0.1 percentage point.
According to the company, explicit core search excludes contextually driven searches that do not reflect specific user intent to interact with the search results.
In the month, 18.36 billion explicit core searches were conducted, 4 percent higher than February's 17.59 billion. Google sites ranked first with 12.19 billion, 4 percent higher sequentially. The order followed just as in the market share, with increased numbers in Microsoft, Yahoo!, Ask Network and AOL.
comScore noted that in March, 68.6 percent of searches carried organic search results from Google, while 25.9 percent of searches were powered by Bing.
