The most viewed amateur YouTube video featuring a young boy being bitten by his baby brother has made their parents a fortune - earning them more than £300,000 in the last five years.

The brief 56 second clip entitled 'Charlie bit my finger - again!' has been viewed more than 438million times, making it the most-watched viral video ever.

And it has made the family who filmed it close to $500,000 dollars - just over £300,000 - when they agreed to partner with YouTube to split ad revenue after it became an online sensation.

Harry Davies-Carr, now aged eight, and his cheeky brother Charlie, now six, from the Thames Valley, became famous the world over after their father Howard posted the short video of them on the website in 2007 for their godfather living in Colorado.

Then aged three and one, the homemade video shows the boys playing in a chair with Harry teasing his younger brother with his finger - which Charlie promptly bites.

When Charlie refuses to let go of his finger, Harry cries out: 'Ouch, ouch, ouch. Charlie...that really hurt.'

He then turns to his father, filming the video, telling him: 'Charlie bit me' before telling his brother off, saying 'That really hurt charlie and it's still hurting' while Charlie giggles.

Their father Howard told ABC News the only reason he put it on YouTube was to share it with boys' godfather who lives in Colorado. He said: 'To me, it was just a lovely moment.'

Howard then shared the link with family and friends and in just a few weeks it had about 200 views.

He then didn't check the site for a few months until he went back to take it down - and discovered it had racked up a couple of thousand views.

He said: 'I went to YouTube to take it down as there was no need for it to stay on YouTube any longer.

'At that point, I realised that it had a few thousand views and then it was almost doubling in the number of views pretty much every day, which I thought was rather strange.

'I thought why are all these people watching our video?'

As the video link had been shared all over the internet with close to 50 million views, Howard realised it would be difficult to get it removed from all the sites it was now featured on, so decided to partner with YouTube on the advertising revenue.

Howard added: 'I had to make a decision: Is this something that we accept is us and do something more with or let everybody else exploit it and make money from it?'

The family have now earned close to half a million dollars from advertising revenue after reaching 438,714,267 views since uploading the video in 2007.

The official video of the 2010 World Cup theme is the only video to have been watched more on the site.
